Talking Turkey

21 October 2009 2 Comments

As the holidays approach whether it is Thanks Giving, Hanukkah, Christmas or celebrating the New Year, one of the major highlights is good food.  Hot food, cold dishes, warm sweet and savory dishes, dishes made with love and care for family and friends.  The wonderful smells that seep through every corner of the house calling to our senses, making taste buds water and desires grow for just a small taste, ah the holidays.  If you are considering turkey or ham as part of the main course be careful of the injected seasonings.  Some very natural meats are being injected with MSG harmful chemicals you don’t want in your body.

What happened to good food, just plain food for what it is, why should it be so hard to buy what you want without all the junk you don’t want.  Has the food chain gone mad?  Do they really think this is what we want?  Say NO to the harmful chemicals, let the disseminators of this junk sit on their product this season.  Buy from producers that sell good food without the harmful chemicals.  The season of giving is upon us, let’s give the gift of health and life and give these unscrupulous producers what they deserve a poor 4th quarter!

I am with you on the plain food. Recently I developed acid reflux and I need to eat my food with no additives….especially the harmful ones. That food is really hard to find so I find myself eating a lot of foods prepared from scratch. I guess all of us are going to have to go organic to get foods the way we want them….but who is to say it is really organic?

Exactly, the term ORGANIC no longer works, HEALTHY CHOICE and NATURAL are out and LITE or DIET are just plain dangerous terms anymore. Buying SLOW and LOCAL are two terms that are the most recent safe choices, but they are not traditional words that infer health, they infer speed and regionality. Organic, natural, safe and healthy are words in the Engilish language that have been bastardized to satisfy greed, just like the food the unscruplous producers make. Brand name is also no sign of healthy, natural food. some of the biggest brands are also the biggest offenders. Know your product and share your knowledge with others. Help keep unhealthy chemicals out of our food and food production.

For those that have not been to The Desperate Cook WEB site http://thedesperatecook.blogspot.com/ it is well worth the visit. There are some tasty recipes to be found there.
